These unique lamps, designed by Mark Edwards and built by the Jericho Foundation provides brighter Natural White quality light. This is ideal at helping people cope with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and winter blues. The lamp is eco-friendly, using just 16W but producing a brightness of 140W.
It is hand made from recycled wood by the Jericho project youngsters, a charity that provides them with their first experience of the world of work. You can see these unique lights for yourself next week at the Malvern Festival of Innovation, from Thursday 7th November to Saturday, 9th November, where Mark will be exhibiting.
The Jericho Foundation, is a social enterprise charity, based in Balsall Heath in Birmingham. Their team of around 40 people from disadvantaged backgrounds work on a variety of projects, including a wood recycling scheme. All the wood used for the new lamps has been recycled rather than disposed of in a landfill site and Mark is training the employees in the skills required to put together the finished product. Mark says “the lamps are not only eco-friendly and British made but provides a real opportunity for disabled and disaffected youngsters to develop much needed skills using wood, tools and new technology in a constructive way. The project is great for getting them to work together as a cohesive team – skills they will need to take their place with future employers”.
