LED lighting can save more electricity than solar will produce, according to LED pioneer Roland Haitz, former chief technology officer, semiconductor products group, Hewlett-Packard (later Agilent).
“20 percent of the world’s electricity that’s generated is used for lighting. Three quarters of that can be saved by using LEDs; 15 per cent of today’s electricity consumption can be saved,” he said at the Economist’s Innovation Summit.
